1. How these terms fit
These Vaulterm Terms (the "Vaulterm Terms") apply to the Vaulterm app, to licenses for it, to Vaulterm accounts and sync, to the license management page, and to vaulterm.com. They are part of your agreement with WarPulse LLC ("WarPulse", "we", "us"), together with:
- the WarPulse Terms and Conditions (the "WarPulse Terms");
- the WarPulse Privacy Policy and the Vaulterm Privacy Notice; and
- the Vaulterm Refund Policy.
Where the Vaulterm Terms and the WarPulse Terms disagree about Vaulterm, the Vaulterm Terms win. Anything they don't cover is governed by the WarPulse Terms. By installing or using Vaulterm, or by buying or claiming a license, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, don't use Vaulterm.
You must be at least 13 to use Vaulterm, and old enough to make a binding contract where you live (or have a parent or guardian's permission) to buy a license. If you use Vaulterm or buy a license for an organization, you confirm you're allowed to accept these terms for it.
2. Words used here
- Vaulterm: the desktop app, its updates, and the documentation on vaulterm.com.
- Plan: Free, Pro, Ultra or Teams, as described on the pricing page.
- License: the right to use a paid plan's features, recorded on our license server and identified by a license key.
- Term license: a license with an end date: Pro for 3 or 12 months, or Ultra for 3 months, 6 months, 12 months or 3 years. Ultra for 5 years is no longer sold; one already bought lasts its full term.
- Lifetime license: Pro Lifetime or Ultra Lifetime, paid once. Pro bought once before October 2, 2026 is Pro Lifetime. "Lifetime", "for life" and "once" mean for as long as WarPulse offers Vaulterm, as set out in section 21. They don't refer to your lifetime.
- Pro monthly: Pro paid for each month, as described in section 9.
- Device: one computer, identified as described in the Vaulterm Privacy Notice.
- Account: a Vaulterm account, which you sign in to with a passkey, or a password plus an authenticator app. You need one only for sync.
- Sync: keeping your vault the same on your devices through our servers, end-to-end encrypted, with 90 days of history and Recently deleted.
- Item: one thing that syncs: a host or group, an identity, a key, a snippet, a tunnel, a connection, a layout or a known host.
- Cloud features: accounts, sync and built-in AI, which run partly on our servers. Every plan includes sync up to its item limit, so when a license ends, sync carries on within the limit of the plan you fall back to, and pauses if your synced vault is over it (sections 7 and 15).
3. Your license to use Vaulterm
WarPulse gives you a personal, worldwide, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use Vaulterm under these terms. You may use every plan, including Free, for personal and for commercial work. For Vaulterm, this replaces the "personal, non-commercial purposes" limit in section 4 of the WarPulse Terms.
- Free can be installed on any number of your computers, with no time limit.
- A paid license unlocks its plan's features on up to the number of devices in section 5.
You may not:
- get around, disable or fake license checks, or make or change license tokens;
- share, publish, sell or give away a license key, except as section 5 allows;
- use a key you got through fraud, a chargeback or someone else's payment method without permission;
- copy, change or reverse-engineer Vaulterm, except where the law allows it despite this term, or where an open-source license allows it.
Vaulterm includes open-source components. Each is covered by its own license, and those licenses are listed with the app. Nothing in these terms limits what those licenses let you do. WarPulse keeps every right it doesn't give you here. "Vaulterm" and its logo are trademarks of WarPulse LLC.
4. Plans and features
The pricing page says what each plan includes. Features marked "Coming" on vaulterm.com aren't part of what you buy until they're released, so please don't buy a license for a feature that isn't out yet. We may add features to any plan at any time.
Our promise to people who paid once: a feature that was part of Pro or Lifetime when you bought it won't be moved to a more expensive plan for you. We may still change how a feature works, or retire one for everyone (for example, for security or because something it depends on stops existing), as section 20 describes.
5. License keys and devices
- One key per customer. Renewals, upgrades, Pro monthly and the AI add-on are added to the same license, so you enter your key once on each device. Signing in to your Vaulterm account brings your license too, with no key to type (section 15).
- Your key is the credential. Anyone who has it can activate and deactivate devices on your license. Keep it private.
- Lost keys: the manage page, signed in by a link sent to your purchase email, issues a new key. The old one then stops working for new activations. Devices already activated keep working.
- One person per license. A Pro, Ultra or early-user license is for one person, on their own devices. An organization buying for several people needs a license for each person, or Teams.
- Device limits, counted as devices active at the same time:
- Pro: 3;
- Ultra, with an end date or Lifetime: 5;
- free Pro for early users: 3;
- Teams: 5 per seat.
- Moving devices: deactivate one in Vaulterm or on the manage page to free its place. There's no limit on how often you move. We may look into, and contact you about, a license that's activated on an unusual number of devices, and may revoke a key that has been published or shared.
- Transfers: licenses can't be sold or transferred. If you need to move a license to another person (for example, from you to your employer), email us and we'll help where we reasonably can.
6. License checks and offline use
Activating a license needs an internet connection. After that, Vaulterm confirms the license with our server in the background every few days. What it sends is listed in the Vaulterm Privacy Notice. Vaulterm never needs our server to open, to unlock your vault, or to connect to your servers.
- If Vaulterm can't reach our server, because you're offline or because the server is down, paid features keep working for 30 days after the last successful check. Vaulterm tells you during the last 7 days.
- After 30 days, paid features lock until Vaulterm reaches the server again. Then they unlock straight away, with nothing to re-enter.
- An outage never shortens a term license, and a long-lived check never lengthens one. The end date is part of the license.
- Turning your computer's clock back doesn't extend a license, and Vaulterm may use the latest time it has seen instead.
When a feature locks, nothing is deleted. Saved tunnels, layouts and themes stay in your vault and come back when the feature unlocks. Your vault always stays on your computer and keeps working with Free's features.
7. Licenses with an end date
- A term license starts when you buy it. If you buy one while another is running, the new one starts when the current one ends.
- It ends on the date shown in Vaulterm and in your purchase email, at the time shown there. There's no grace period after it.
- It doesn't renew on its own. We never charge you again unless you buy another license.
- We remind you 14 days before it ends, in Vaulterm and by email. The reminders are a courtesy: a license still ends on its date if a reminder doesn't reach you.
- When an Ultra term ends, your license falls back to Pro if you have Pro (Lifetime, a Pro term still running, Pro monthly, or free as an early user), and to Free otherwise. When a Pro term ends, it falls back to Free. Sync carries on within the item limit of the plan you fall back to. If your synced vault holds more items than that plan syncs, sync pauses, and section 15 covers what happens to the copy on our servers.
8. Lifetime licenses
Pro Lifetime and Ultra Lifetime are paid once and have no end date. They include the updates we release for Vaulterm, at no extra charge, for as long as we offer Vaulterm. Each syncs up to its own plan's item limit (section 15). Neither includes built-in AI, which Lifetime owners can add with the AI add-on.
9. Pro monthly and the AI add-on
Pro monthly and the AI add-on are the only parts of Vaulterm that renew automatically. Pro monthly is Pro, paid for each month. The AI add-on is sold only to Lifetime owners.
- Automatic renewal: by starting Pro monthly or the add-on, you authorize a charge of $5 a month, plus any tax, to your payment method each month until you cancel.
- Cancelling: cancel any time from the manage page, which opens Stripe's billing portal. Cancelling stops the next charge. Pro, or AI, keeps working until the end of the month you've paid for. After that, Pro monthly falls back to Free, and nothing on your computer is deleted. Months already paid aren't refunded, except as the Refund Policy says.
- No credit: Pro monthly payments don't count toward Pro Lifetime, Ultra Lifetime or any other purchase.
- Buying Pro Lifetime while Pro monthly runs cancels Pro monthly at the end of the month you've paid for, so nothing more is charged.
- Price changes: we'll email you at least 30 days before a new price applies to you. You can cancel before then.
- Failed payments: if a payment fails, Pro monthly or AI stops a few days after the paid month ends, until the payment goes through.
10. Buying, prices and tax
- Who sells: licenses are sold by WarPulse LLC, or by Stripe as merchant of record when checkout says so. When Stripe is the seller, Stripe's terms govern the payment and tax for that sale, and your license comes from WarPulse under these terms.
- Payment is handled by Stripe. We never see or store your card details.
- Prices are in US dollars. Checkout may show an amount in your currency. Tax, such as VAT or sales tax, is shown at checkout and added or included as the law where you live requires.
- Price changes never affect a license you've already bought. For Pro monthly and the AI add-on, section 9 says how a new price applies. Prices shown before licenses go on sale are provisional. If a price is clearly wrong because of an error, we may cancel the order and refund it in full.
- Delivery: your key is shown on the page after payment and emailed to you. You're asking us to deliver it straight away, which matters for the withdrawal right in section 12.
- Records: the license belongs to the email address used to buy it. Keep that address up to date on the manage page, because it's how you recover your key.
11. Upgrades
- Upgrading to Ultra Lifetime costs its full price, $499. Upgrade credit is switched off for now, so what you paid before isn't counted toward it.
- If we offer upgrade credit again, these terms will say how it works before it applies to any purchase. Upgrades already made with credit keep it.
- Upgrading from Pro to an Ultra license with an end date costs that license's full price.
12. Refunds
Every purchase can be refunded in full within 14 days, no questions asked. For Pro monthly and the AI add-on, that's the first payment. The Refund Policy covers how to ask, Pro monthly and the AI add-on, upgrades and chargebacks. A refund ends what the purchase unlocked.
If you live in the EU or the UK: the law gives you 14 days to withdraw from a contract for digital content. At checkout you ask us to deliver your key straight away and agree that you lose that statutory right once delivery begins. Our 14-day refund still applies, so you can get the same money back in the same period. Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have by law, including remedies when digital content doesn't work as described.
13. Free Pro for early users
People who used Vaulterm before licenses went on sale could claim Pro for life, free. Claims closed on October 3, 2026, and no new claims are accepted.
- Licenses already claimed: a Pro license with no end date, on up to 3 devices, under the same terms as a bought Pro license. It can't be refunded or exchanged for money, because nothing was paid, and it adds no upgrade credit.
- Installations that hadn't claimed: an installation that hadn't completed its claim by then doesn't get free Pro, including one that would have qualified. Free stays free, and Pro can be bought like anyone else.
- We may revoke a claimed license if we reasonably believe it was made by faking eligibility.
14. Teams
Teams is a subscription sold per seat, billed each month or each year by card or invoice. It isn't on sale yet and is coming later. Once it is, it renews until the organization cancels, and seats can be added or removed as people join or leave. A Teams order or invoice may add terms, such as the number of seats, dates and payment terms. Where it conflicts with these terms, the order wins for that Teams purchase. The organization that buys Teams is responsible for who it gives seats to and for their use of Vaulterm.
15. Your account and sync
Every plan includes sync, up to its item limit: Free 5 items, Pro 250 and Ultra 10,000. Sync keeps 90 days of history and Recently deleted, so you can bring back an earlier version or something you deleted. Sync needs a Vaulterm account. Nothing else in Vaulterm does.
- Your account: you sign in with a passkey, or a password plus an authenticator app. Signing in brings your license to Vaulterm. Keep the ways you sign in safe.
- End-to-end encrypted: your vault is encrypted on your devices before anything is uploaded. We can't read it, and we can't recover or reset it for you. If you lose your master password and your Recovery Key, your data can't be recovered by anyone. We may be able to give you back a lost account and its licenses, but never what's in your synced vault.
- Your content: because we can't see what you store, you're responsible for having the right to store it and for using sync lawfully.
- Item limits: if a change would take your synced vault past your plan's limit, sync pauses. Nothing is deleted. Delete some items, or move to a bigger plan, and sync carries on.
- When a license ends: sync carries on with the plan you're left with (section 7). If your synced vault holds more items than that plan syncs, sync pauses, and each device keeps its own vault. The Vaulterm Privacy Notice says how long we keep the copy on our servers after that, and when we email you before deleting it.
- Deleting: you can delete the copy on our servers, or your whole account, at any time. Each device keeps its own vault, and your licenses stay with your email.
- Cloud features are provided "as is" and "as available", like other WarPulse services. Keep your own copy of anything you can't afford to lose.
16. Built-in AI
Built-in AI isn't released yet. When it is:
- it's opt-in, and Vaulterm shows you exactly what will be sent before it's sent;
- what you send is processed by us and by the AI providers we use, as the Vaulterm Privacy Notice describes;
- it has fair-use limits on every plan, which we may adjust to keep the service working for everyone;
- AI can be wrong. Suggested commands can delete data or change systems. Read every command before you run it. You're responsible for what you run;
- don't use it to create anything unlawful or harmful, or in breach of the AI providers' usage policies.
17. Using Vaulterm responsibly
This adds to the conduct rules in section 5 of the WarPulse Terms. Vaulterm is a powerful tool, and you're responsible for how you use it:
- Only connect to servers and systems you're allowed to access.
- Only scan networks you own or are allowed to scan. Network scan looks for SSH servers on the networks you choose.
- Tunnels and port forwarding can expose services to other machines. Make sure they're allowed by the networks you use them on.
- Broadcast input sends what you type to every pane you selected. Check the selection before you type.
- Coding agents you start from Vaulterm run on your machines under your accounts and their own terms. Vaulterm shows them but doesn't control what they do.
- Smart panes' shell integration is installed on a remote host only when you choose it.
- Don't use Vaulterm to gain access you're not allowed, to attack or disrupt systems, or to spread malware.
18. Your vault and your data
Your hosts, keys, identities, passwords and everything else you save are kept in an encrypted vault on your computer. If you turn on sync, we keep a copy encrypted end to end, which we can't open (section 15). Otherwise we don't have a copy. How Vaulterm handles data, and what little we receive, is in the Vaulterm Privacy Notice.
You're responsible for your master password, your Recovery Key, your SSH keys and your backups. Encryption and security checks lower risk but can't remove it. To the extent the law allows, we aren't responsible for data lost because a password or Recovery Key was lost, a device failed, or you deleted something.
19. Updates and release channels
- Vaulterm updates itself with signed updates. Updates are free.
- Beta releases come before Stable ones and may have bugs. Use them with backups and not as your only way into important systems.
- We may need you to update Vaulterm to keep activating or confirming licenses, for example when we replace a signing key. We'll give reasonable notice where we can.
- A license covers Vaulterm on the platforms we release it for. Buying one doesn't promise a release on a platform we haven't released yet, such as mobile.
20. Changes to Vaulterm and these terms
We keep improving Vaulterm, so features change. We may change or retire a feature for everyone, within the promise in section 4.
We may update these terms. The date at the top shows the latest version. For a change that reduces your rights, we'll tell you at least 30 days before it applies, in Vaulterm or by email if you've bought a license. Changes never apply to a purchase you made before them where they would change its price, its device limit or its length. This section replaces the notice rules in section 7 of the WarPulse Terms for Vaulterm.
21. If Vaulterm or licensing ends
If WarPulse stops offering Vaulterm, or permanently shuts down the Vaulterm license server:
- we'll tell license holders at least 90 days before, where we can;
- before the server shuts down, we'll release an update that lets Pro and Lifetime owners keep using the features that run on their own computers, with no license checks;
- if you have time left on an Ultra license with an end date, or a paid month of the AI add-on, when cloud features stop, we'll refund the unused part in proportion to the time left;
- Pro monthly stops renewing. Pro keeps working to the end of the month you've paid for.
22. Revoking a license
You can stop using Vaulterm at any time. Deactivate your devices and uninstall it.
For Vaulterm, this section replaces section 8 of the WarPulse Terms. We don't end a paid license for no reason. We may revoke or suspend a license only:
- when its payment is refunded;
- while a chargeback or payment dispute for it is open. If it's resolved in our favor, the license comes back;
- when it was obtained by fraud, or its key has been published or shared in breach of section 5;
- for a serious breach of these terms, after we've told you and given you a fair chance to put it right where that's possible; or
- when the law requires it.
If we revoke a paid license for a reason that isn't your fault, we'll refund what you paid for the part you can no longer use. A revoked license falls back to Free, and Free remains available to you unless you've seriously breached these terms.
23. Warranty and liability
The warranty disclaimer and limits of liability in sections 2 and 3 of the WarPulse Terms apply to Vaulterm, with these changes:
- We aren't responsible for what happens on the servers and systems you connect to, or for commands you run or send with Vaulterm, including commands suggested by AI.
- For Vaulterm, our total liability to you is limited to the greater of: (a) what you paid us for Vaulterm in the 12 months before the claim, plus the price of any Pro or Lifetime license you own; or (b) US$50.
- Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited by law, such as for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence, and nothing affects your rights as a consumer under the law where you live.
24. Disputes
Section 10 of the WarPulse Terms (informal resolution, then individual arbitration) applies to Vaulterm, with these changes:
- Opting out costs you nothing. If you opt out of arbitration under section 10.7 of the WarPulse Terms, your Vaulterm license and your access to Vaulterm continue. Section 10.8 of the WarPulse Terms doesn't apply to Vaulterm.
- Consumers outside the United States: if the law where you live doesn't allow the arbitration agreement or the class action waiver to bind you, they don't. You can bring a claim in your local courts, and the mandatory consumer protection law of the country where you live applies.
Before any claim, please email [email protected]. Most problems are solved by a refund or a fix.
25. Export and sanctions
Vaulterm contains encryption and is subject to United States export control and sanctions laws. You may not use, export or re-export Vaulterm in breach of those laws, including to a country or person under US embargo or sanctions. By using Vaulterm, you confirm you aren't on a US government list of restricted parties.
26. Everything else
- Feedback: if you send us ideas or feedback, we may use them without owing you anything.
- Assignment: we may transfer these terms and your license to a company that takes over Vaulterm, and your rights under them continue. You may not transfer them except as section 5 allows.
- Severability, entire agreement and governing law follow sections 10 and 11 of the WarPulse Terms. The Vaulterm Terms, the WarPulse Terms, the privacy documents and the Refund Policy together are the whole agreement about Vaulterm.
- If we don't enforce a term straight away, we can still enforce it later.
